Remy Burnens

Tenor

In August 2026, the Swiss bilingual (German-French) tenor Remy Burnens sang Jaquino Fidelio at the Sommeroper Selzach in Switzerland ; then Fenton in William Michael Balfe's rarely performed Falstaff with the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn (TOBS) also in Switzerland, with performances across Switzerland until December 2026. His 25-26 season had started with Tamino Die Zauberflöte in an acclaimed production at the TOBS, with performances in Biel, Solothurn and various Swiss theatres throughout winter 2025, and continued with Dvořák's Stabat Mater at the Lausanne Cathedral.

Future plans include a recital in Beirut, Mendelssohn's Die Erste Walpurgisnacht in Bern and a reprise of Balfe's Falstaff at the Blackvalley Water Opera Festival in Ireland.

His previous operatic appearances include Hippolyte in Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie at the Schloss Waldegg in Switzerland, Marzio Mitridate at the Opéras de Lausanne and Montpellier, Berengario Lotario (Handel) in Payerne, Switzerland, Acis Acis & Galatea at the TOBS, Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Goethe-Theater in Bad Lauchstädt (Germany), at Pflauen-Zwickau and at Schwetzingen Castle in Germany, Eurilochus in Reinhard Keiser’s Ulisses and Argirio Tancredi, both at the TOBS.

Alongside his work on the operatic stage, Remy has earned a stellar reputation in concert repertoire.  He performs regularly across Switzerland, where he sings a broad repertoire of oratorio and concert works, ranging from baroque to modern, to include Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings in Bern, Mendelssohn Elias in Fribourg and J.S. Bach B minor Mass in Lucerne. Other recent concert appearances include Cherubini Missa Solemnis at the KKL in Lucerne, Rossini Stabat Mater in Lucerne and at the TOBS, a Strauss New Year programme at the Opéra Royal de Versailles and at the Gstaad New Year Music Festival in Switzerland with the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles, as well as Messiah at the Chapelle Royale de Versailles and the Salle Gaveau, Paris.

Remy is an avid performer of Lied and loves to find innovative ways of reintroducing its repertoire to the world. Aside from focussing on German greats such as Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, he loves to perform early 20th century English and French songs. Together with Swiss pianist Clémence Hirt, he founded Duo Dalùna in 2018. Their first CD, A Song in the Wood, featuring a selection of songs by Britten, Head and Quilter, was released in 2021. The Duo was awarded the 3rd Prize at the inaugural Bolko von Hochberg Song Competition in Goerlitz and has performed at song festivals across Switzerland, presenting Schubert's Schöne Müllerin in Biel, Fribourg and Poschiavo.

Remy studied voice with Peter Brechbühler in Lucerne and Malcolm Walker in Paris, and subsequently worked in masterclasses with Raul Giménez and Filippo Morace.

“Although he only has one aria, he turns it into a spectacularly brilliant number, with the entire repertoire of vocalizations, gorgheggi and other abbellimenti, to which he adds extra-terrestrial high notes...”

"The evening's revelation was the Swiss tenor, Remy Burnens, an authentic Rossini tenor with astonishing ease at the top of his register. This remarkable artist gives the role of  Argirio a dimension and contrast which is lacking in the other two protagonists... each time he is on stage, the bar is raised and his grand air in Act II is a subtle mix of expressiveness and perfect technique."

"The four soloists of the evening shone with impressive performances […] Tenor Remy Burnens, who from the very beginning filled the hall with his radiant voice, was first-rate casting for this role."
