Joseph Doody
Tenor
Anglo-Irish tenor Joseph Doody was born in West Yorkshire. He studied at the University of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Music, and the National Opera Studio in London.
His many recent appearances at home and abroad include his English National Opera debut as Nemorino L’elisir d’amore, Ramiro La Cenerentola for the Opéra de Québec, Count Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia for Longborough Festival Opera, Aufidio Lucio Silla (Salzburg Landestheater), Tsar Berendey in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden and Ramiro La Cenerentola (both for English Touring Opera), and Mordecai Esther (Solomon’s Knot; Halle Handel Festival, Wigmore Hall).
His current and future plans include his role debut as Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi for Mid Wales Opera, Ramiro La Cenerentola for Diva Opera in South Africa, France and across the UK, and he will begin 2027 as Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo e Eurydice for English Touring Opera (touring from March).
Among his other recent acclaimed performances: Orpheus Orpheus in the Underworld for IF Opera, a return to the Royal Ballet and Opera for A Letter from Ben, Count Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia (Charles Court Opera; Wilton’s Music Hall), Alessandro Il re pastore and Italian Tenor/Guglielmo Viva la Diva (Buxton Festival), Count Errico La vera constanza (New Chamber Opera; Oxford), Toby Robinson Crusoe (West Green House Opera) and Mosquito The Cunning Little Vixen (Welsh National Opera). His other roles include Albert Albert Herring, Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress, Jupiter Semele, Basilio Le nozze di Figaro, Pylade Iphigénie en Tauride, Ernesto Don Pasquale and Leicester Maria Stuarda.
On disc, Joseph has featured as Captain Trevor in a critically-acclaimed and Gramophone Awards-nominated recording of C.V. Stanford’s Shamus O’Brien (Retrospect Opera). In concert, Joseph appears regularly in a wide variety of repertoire including both Bach Passions as both Evangelist and tenor soloist (arias). Concert highlights include Monteverdi Vespers and Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Beethoven Missa Solemnis with Southbank Sinfonia, Orff Carmina Burana at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Bach St John Passion with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, alongside performances of both Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings and Les Illuminations, Rossini Stabat Mater and Haydn The Creation.

Après avoir terminé une saison 2024-2025 très active avec ses débuts au Longborough Festival Opera dans le Conte Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia et le rôle-titre d'Orphée aux Enfers pour IF Opera, Joseph Doody a remporté un grand succès pour ses débuts canadiens dans Ramiro La Cenerentola à l'Opéra de Québec.
Il avait auparavant chanté le rôle-titre Albert Herring, Tom Rakewell The Rake's Progress, Jupiter Semele, Basilio Le nozze di Figaro, Pylade Iphigénie en Tauride, Ernesto Don Pasquale, et Leicester Maria Stuarda.
