Jerome Knox
Baritone
Jerome Knox was born in London and is a graduate of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he was the inaugural Gleneagles scholar. He previously trained at the Royal College of Music and at Edinburgh University. In 2020, he won the prestigious London Handel Festival Competition and is now much in demand in both concert and operatic repertoire.
His many recent stage appearances have included his role debut as Nardo La finta giardiniera with The Mozartists at the Cadogan Hall, Clodomiro in Handel's Lotario for his Swiss debut in Payerne and Nick Shadow The Rake's Progress with English Touring Opera. 2024 also saw a return to Scottish Opera for their spring Opera Highlights tour, and Jerome has also recently sung Marcello La bohème, Don Prudenzio Il viaggio a Reims, Pallante Agrippina, Astolfo Lucrezia Borgia and Afron The Golden Cockerel (all for English Touring Opera), as well as Aeneas Dido & Aeneas, Polyphemus Acis & Galatea and Count Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro (all for Waterperry Opera).
His summer 2025 plans include his debut for West Green House Opera, a return to Waterperry Opera and, in concert, Jerome will appear as baritone soloist in the Brahms Requiem.
In concert, recent highlights include appearances at Wigmore Hall with the London Handel Players, including programmes of Bach cantatas and Magnificat (with interpolations), Messiah at Edinburgh's Usher Hall with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, Christus and arias in the Bach St John Passion for the London Handel Festival, and his debut with the Flemish Radio Choir also for Messiah. In recital, he has performed at the Händel-Festspiele in Halle, the London Handel Festival and the Ludlow English Song Weekend, as well as giving a joint recital with baritone Roderick Williams at Music at Paxton, supported by the prestigious Momentum scheme.
His other operatic roles include Dandini La Cenerentola, Faust in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel, title role Don Giovanni, Oreste Iphigénie en Tauride, Melisso Alcina, Schaunard La bohème, Death Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, title role Eugene Onegin and Pallante Agrippina, appearing with companies across the UK, including Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne, British Youth Opera and Garsington Opera, and, on film, the roles of Le Chat in VOPERA's award-winning version of L'enfant et les sortilèges, and ETO's Handel-inspired film project, Aidan. Other concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Dona Nobis Pacem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Bach’s St John Passion (including staged appearances with ETO), B Minor Mass and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, and Hérodes L’enfance du Christ.

Tout aussi à l'aise au concert, il a chanté entre autres le Messie de Haendel pour la Radio flamande en Belgique ainsi que le Christ et les airs dans la Passion selon Saint-Jean au London Handel Festival. Il est régulièrement invité au Wigmore Hall de Londres avec les London Handel Players, par exemple pour des cantates et le Magnificat de Bach (avec les interpolations de Noël).
Parmi les rôles qu'il a incarnés sur scène, Dandini La Cenerentola, Faust L'Ange de Feu de Prokofiev, le rôle-titre Don Giovanni, Oreste Iphigénie en Tauride, Melisso Alcina (Ryedale Festival), Schaunard La Bohème, La Mort Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Dr Falke Die Fledermaus et Pallante Agrippina pour diverses compagnies britanniques, entre autres le Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne et Garsingon ; et pour le cinéma, il a chanté le Chat dans une production filmée de L'Enfant et les Sortilèges pour VOPERA, qui a remporté un grand succès, ainsi qu'un projet autour de Haendel, Aidan, pour l'English Touring Opera.
En concert, il a participé au Händel-Festspiele à Halle et au London Handel Festival, et a donné avec le baryton Roderick Williams un récital pour Music at Paxton. 2024 l'a vu débuter au Ludlow English Song Weekend ; il a par ailleurs chanté Elias de Mendelssohn, les Five Mystical Songs et le Dona Nobis Pacem de Vaughan Williams, la Messa di Gloria de Puccini, la Messe en si mineur et l'Oratorio de Noël, le Dixit Dominus de Haendel ainsi que Hérodedans L’enfance du Christ de Berlioz.
