Galina Averina
Galina Averina studied at the International Opera School of the Royal College of Music, in London.
Prior to arriving in London, she was a member of the soloists’ ensemble at the Perm State Opera Theatre, with roles including Brigitta Iolanta, Frasquita Carmen, Kseniya Boris Godunov, Noemi Cendrillon, Ersilia Le astuzie femminili, and Charmion Cleopatre.
Her other roles include Atalanta Serse, Iphise in Rameau’s Dardanus, Ilia Idomeneo, Lauretta Gianni Schicchi, the title role in Partenope, Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Susanna Le nozze di Figaro and Oscar Un ballo in maschera.
In competition, she was one of the finalists in the prestigious Francisco Viñas Competition at the Liceu in Barcelona, and was awarded the prestigious Audience Prize. She is also a previous winner of the Bampton Classical Opera Young Singers’ Competition and took 2nd Prize in the 2016 Handel Competition in London.
In 2020, Galina sang Marzelline Fidelio in concert performances with Garsington Opera and the Philharmonia (also broadcast on BBC Radio 3) and, in summer 2021, she made her role debut as Magda La Rondine for West Green House Opera, alongside a recital of Frauenliebe und -leben for the Lichfield Festival.
Last summer, she sang her first Contessa Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro with West Green House Opera and, in spring 2022, created the role of Pasiphae in the world premiere of Michael Zev Gordon’s Raising Icarus with the Barber Institute/Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, as well as concert performances as Phébé in Rameau’s Castor and Pollux, and her role debut as Mimi La bohème on tour with Mid Wales Opera.
Her most recent opera projects have included a return to the Barber Institute for performances as Stratonica in La forza dell’Amor Paterno, a rare work by baroque composer Antonio Stradella, and, in concert, she sang Mozart Mass in C minor at the Cadogan Hall. Her future plans include her first Adina L’elisir d’amore this summer, followed by her debut for Opera North as Magda La Rondine.
