British tenor Adam Temple-Smith studied at Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, the National Opera Studio in London and the Opern Studio NRW in Germany. Now well-established in Germany, he has been a member of the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier, Gelsenkirchen since 2021, also appearing across Europe as guest in lead tenor roles.
His most recent appearances in Gelsenkirchen include Tamino Die Zauberflöte, Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi, Fenton Falstaff, Die Knusperhexe Hänsel und Gretel, Rodolfo La bohème, Madwoman Curlew River, Fritz La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein and Der Steuermann Der Fliegende Holländer, as well as concert and music theatre appearances in works including Carmina Burana and The Man from La Mancha.
Plans for the current season include a return to the role of Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress for the Nouvel Opéra Fribourg and, as part of a busy season in Gelsenkirchen, he makes role debuts as Andres Wozzeck, Freddy My Fair Lady and also appears in Prokofiev's The Love of Three Oranges.
Away from Gelsenkirchen, Adam created the title role of Itchingham Lofte to great acclaim in the world premiere of Jonathan Dove's Itch at Opera Holland Park, and has also recently sung Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress at The Grange Festival in the UK, multiple roles (including White King and Mad Hatter) in Gerald Barry's Alice's Adventures Under Ground at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and in Magdeburg, Schoolmaster The Little Cunning Vixen in Münster.
His future plans include a return to Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress for the Nouvel Opéra Fribourg and, as part of a busy season in Gelsenkirchen, his role debut as Andres Wozzeck.
Adam’s many other roles include Herr M in Hindemith’s Neues Vom Tage, Evangelist in a staging of Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, Novice and Squeak Billy Budd, Ernesto Don Pasquale, 1st Jew Salome and Guido Eine Nacht in Venedig.
